Coming together for the first time in the duo exhibition, Sumthin’s In the Water, LaVon Williams and Dafri are both storytellers, craftsmen and artists. Though from different generations, working in different mediums, their work is united in their energetic portrayal of the human spirit.

As they say, “every story has two sides.” But through their work, LaVon and Dafri show there are not sides, but layers, filled with surrounding characters, places, and events that paint a much more vibrant and elaborate rendering of every story. Rooted in memory and heritage, each artist illuminates the stories within the story and shares their relevance in today’s world. They combine vibrant colors and smooth lines with a skilled, playful approach to scale to capture movement in still forms.

Sumthin’s In the Water will focus on the importance of the African American influence on the horse racing industry, drawing attention to the historic contribution of Lexington and the surrounding areas. New works by each artist will be on exhibit. A special reception will be hosted by Julietta Market on Saturday, November 5th from 7-9pm. Join us for an intimate evening with the artists where they will be sharing poetry, stories and much more. Light refreshments will be served. Limited Edition Prints will be available for sale.

Works will be on exhibit at Julietta Market, located at 101 W Loudon Ave., Lexington, KY 40508 from Monday, October 31 through Sunday, November 27.
